Ive been out of navy point like a billion times and i know where the marker bouys are well i got to the first big green bouy and was 75 yards to the left of the bouy  and running a good 25 knots and all of a sudden WHAM!  i hit something screwed up my foot on my 40 yamaha. bent shaft and cracked the foot. looked back to see what i hit and there was nothing there. that mysterious something just costed me i donno 1000-3000? maybe???? anybody got and idea on how much a new foot will be to replace?

Could have been an old water logged piling floating partially submerged. Do you have Insurance?

I played this game two years ago.  Out of Navy Point, two days after Hurricane Dennis.  We were in the channel where it goes close to the point just before you get into the bay, so was some unseen piece of debris.  Apparent result:  mangled prop and broken skeg.  We changed prop there in the water and went on to fish.  Seemed to run OK, but when we did the lower unit oil change at the end of the season it was full of water. Had a bent prop shaft. Ruined the bearings and seals.  Destroyed the lower unit.  (I was really suprised how long it ran with a lower unit taking on water.)  Two suggestions for a lower unit:  Used, try E-Bay.  For a new/rebuilt unit try Iboats.com.

Be careful around the Mass this time of year also.  I hit a piece of it almost 200 yards to the southeast, luckily I was just idiling put a good nick in the skeg. I guess it was a piece the hurricanes had broken off. Brought the boat to a stop.
